Role of CCTV in Schools,Colleges,Universities.

The primary role of CCTV security is the reduction or elimination of theft and vandalism, caused by outsiders or pupils. CCTV is a cost effective viable choice for schools and educational establishments to turn to especially where staffing costs may be an issue.

In schools, toilets, IT rooms, canteens, and playground facilities can all become targets.

There is also the threat of graffiti at any place around the school. Well-sited CCTV cameras, together with notices that security surveillance is in operation both serve as a deterrent and become invaluable should there be an incident. The same applies to those schools with drug dealing problems on campus. Additionally, behavioural issues can be addressed from general rowdy behaviour and bullying, to parent teacher relations. With CCTV, such situations can be spotted and nipped in the bud before they become serious.

If an incident does happen, then the evidential benefit of high quality digital video recording comes into its own .In the press recently , a particularly serious incident , the videotape was the main piece of the police evidence in court. Without the tape, the prosecution case would have collapsed.

CCTV Cameras can also be effective in helping to deal with truancy issues. With the CCTV cameras forming an important part of an anti-truancy programme, the new Head Teacher was highly successful in reducing the problem.

Finally, CCTV cameras address positive as well as negative issues. Some schools reinforce and reward the good behaviour they see on camera, such as picking up litter. One school also uses the cameras for interview practice, replaying the videotape to the “interviewee” as a training aid. Not a justification for buying cameras, but a very useful spin-off.
